*WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY: PHEW FOUNDATION CALLS ON EVERYONE TO PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT*

The Director General of PHEW Foundation International, Engineer Queen Chigbo has called on every inhabitants of the earth to reserve the Environment from pollution and destruction of the ecosystem.

Engineer Queen Chigbo call was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Warri at the weekend to celebrate this year's World Environment Day.

The PHEW Foundation DG stated that World Environment Day is celebrated across the world on June 5.

She added that it is important to care for the environment we live in, not only for our health but for our survival too. 

Engineer Queen Chigbo stated that the Peace Health Anti Human Trafficking, Environment and Water PHEW Foundation International in 2018 distributed face masks, hand glovers and rain boots to traders of Ekete market in Udu local government area.

"The Warri based NGO has also done sensitization program in the market campaiging for proper waste management and cleanliness of the abbatoir" Engineer Queen Chigbo stated.

"PHEW Foundation International has supported the environment, by engaging in trees planting in some secondary schools such as Dom Domingo's college" she said.

She disclosed that in an attempt to support the global clean energy initiative, PHEW Foundation International trained youths drew from different local government areas in the state on solar panel installation to increase the awareness of solar light system as well as increase man power in the clean energy sector" she pointed out.

"PHEW Foundation International has done catch them young campaign whereby we went to schools to teach the students on environmental management as well as selected environment ambassadors in such schools to ensure compliance" she said.

She further stated that in 2019 before the NIMET announcement of imminent flood in some LGA, PHEW Foundation International went to some council areas, like Udu, Ughelli South amongst others to sensitize the Chairmen and the council staff to take action to avoid lost of life" she stressed.


Engineer Queen Chigbo emphasized that the foundation has done several television and radio sensitization programmes geared towards protecting the Environment.

She pointed out that polluted environment causes diseases like lung cancer, habitation for mosquitoes to breed that causes malaria.


"A polluted environment can lead to global climate change, causes sickness like malaria and other related diseases" Engineer Queen Chigbo added.



The theme for this year's World Environment Day is "Reimagine, Recreate, Restore.' as this year marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration
