OLODIAMA WOMEN IN UGHELLI SOUTH, APPEAL TO DELTA GOVT TO RELEASE WHITE PAPER ON LAND DISPUTE WITH KPAKIAMA COMMUNITY.
Women from Olodiama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area have appealed to State Government to resolve the the lingering land dispute between their community and Kpakiama Community a neighboring community in Bomadi Local Government Area of the state.
The protesting women who made the appeal in a peaceful protest on Thursday, urged to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to prevail on the Boundary Adjustment Commission to come draw the boundary demarcation between the two Communities so as to put an end to the age long land dispute.
The placard carrying women took to the streets carrying placards, dancing and chanting solidarity songs as early as eight in the morning.
In an interview the women said that the protest was to draw the attention of Delta State Government and relevant agencies to find a lasting solution to the lingering land dispute between their community and Kpakiama community in Bomadi LGA.
The women alleged that some persons from Kpakiama Community are forcefully cultivating their farm lands and depriving them from going about their farming activities, which is the source of their livelihood.
The protesters also alleged that, the age long dispute has made residents of the community to live in fear, as they have continue to receive threats from the people of Kpakiama community.
They appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other relevant authorities to urgently resolve the issue by drawing the boundary demarcation between both communities to avoid breakdown of law and order.
Chairman of Olodiama Community, Mr Gabriel Osharekowhofa and its youth Leader, Mr David Ilolo said that as a peaceful Community they have decided to embark on the peaceful protest instead of taking laws into their hands.
They called on the Delta State Government to release the white paper of the 1992 boundary adjustment between Olodiama and Kpakiama Communities.
The Olodiama Community leaders stressed that Olodiama Community which is from Ewu Clan in Ughelli South has been their ancestral home for centuries noting that they are not tenant to any Community.
The Olodiama Community leaders disclosed that they have written to relevant authorities including the Delta State Government, the State House Of Assembly, Ughelli South and Bomadi Council authorities as well as the Police Divisional Headquarters in the area.
The Secretary General of Odorubu Community in Patani Council Area which is also a neighbor to Olodiama Community Mr Sunday Emerhuvwu in an interview implored the Kpakiama Community to respect the boundary between them and their Olodiama Community neighbor.
Efforts to get response from the leadership of Kpakiama community proved abortive as at the time of this report.
