EDUCATION: PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS OPEN FOR FIRST TERM ACADEMIC SESSION

Primary and Secondary Schools in Delta State reopened for a new academic session Monday. Despite the downpour that lasted for an hour,teachers and few learners and students came to school on first day of resumption. 

Education  Correspondent Joelson Esiete reports that delay in the release of promotion examination results by the education ministry appears to be a source of concern to both parents and school authorities 

The downpour Monday morning as the schools reopened for another academic session did not prevent teachers and their learners and students from coming to school. 

Though a large population of the students especially from the public schools were yet to access the schools. At Okugbe primary school, Ekpan, many of the teachers were in school. 

Only few learners had accessed the schools as at the time of this report. Parents were also in the primary school to collect the results, testimonial of their children. 

It was gathered that authorities of primary schools demand for one thousand naira before releasing the results to the parents.

The head teacher of Okugbe Primary School, Mrs Elizabeth Chimeh said both the teachers and learners were gradually settling down to begin the academic session.

At Fountain of Joy Schools, Ekpan,it's gate was already open for both the learners and teachers to access.Some students had resumed while others were seen assessing the private school. 

At Ekpan branch of Classical International schools, teaching and learning was already in progress. In one of the classrooms, a teacher was seen teaching.

Proprietor of the school, Dr Ochuko Akpeme announced the commencement of teaching and learning in all the branches of the school.

Staff of Ekpan secondary school also in Uvwie local government area were in a meeting when drtv News crew arrived. 

Vice Principal, academics, Reverend Paul Ukpe explained that essence of the meeting. Elsewhere within the school premises, the students were seen playing games.Schools in Warri South local government area have also reopened for the new academic session to take off.

At Edjeba primary school, only few of the learners and teachers have come to school.

It was however a different situation at Edbeba Basic College, Edheba.

A large number of the teachers were in school's staff room even as the students tidied the classrooms.

Vice Principal, administration, Mrs Constance Oseji said teaching would begin Tuesday.

Students of Nana Model College were in the assembly committing the reopening of the school to God. 

Principal if the public school, Mrs Mofe Otomi lauded the large number of students that came to school on day one if resumption.

At Uwangue  College, Warri, the school gas reopened for the new session. 

The Principal, Comrade Alexander Oniovosa directed that only students on school uniform should be allowed into the school compound.

Meanwhile, the schools are set to face some challenges particularly with the release of promotion examination results for students of secondary schools. 

It was gathered that the results got to the schools on Sunday. 

This could pose serious concern to both the parents and school authorities. 

It was also gathered that headteachers of primary schools were allegedly demanding for one thousand naira before releasing the primary six results to then. 

Parents that may not be able to pay could face some hard times in the coming weeks. Joelson Esiete drtv News.
