AGBARHO PEOPLE CELEBRATE IBI FESTIVAL IN GRAND STYLE

Agbarho Kingdom in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State was at the weekend agog with celebrations as Indigenes from the thirteen communities that make up the ancient kingdom came out in their numbers to celebrate the bi-annual Ibi Festival.

The President General of Agbarho Urhobo Improvement Union Chief Monday Igho Odiphri said that the Agbarho Ibi Festival is an ancient festival celebrated to usher in peace, unity and prosperity to the kingdom.

  


Agbarho town traditional headquarters of Agbarho Kingdom was a sight to behold on Saturday as indigenes of the kingdom both at home and in diaspora converged to celebrate the grand finale of the bi-annual Ibi Festival. 

Men were dressed in women's attire while the women were equally dressed in men's attire with beautiful walking sticks were seen dancing round the town.


Children were not left out, as they used the opportunity to visit their love ones while wealthy people indigenes hosted family members.



The President General of Agbarho Urhobo Improvement Union Chief Monday Igho-Odiphri while speaking to newsmen on the significance of the Ibi festival said that the festival which is celebrated every two years avails the Agbarho people the time to celebrate together as well as pay homage  to the king.

 

Chief Igho-Odiphri added that the ancient Ibi Festival is also to showcase the spirit of oneness among the thirteen Communities that make up Agbarho Kingdom.


The Agbarho President General stated that the success of 2021 Ibi festival will consolidate on the peace in the kingdom.


He called on investors to take advantage of the peace in the land to come and invest in it.


Chief Monday Igho Odiphri however thanked men of the security agencies and other paramilitary outfits for ensuring that the Ibi Festival was a success.
