RESIDENTS OF OWHAWHA COMMUNITY PROTEST, APPEAL FOR RELEASE OF CHIEF EMMANUEL CHOBOR, ARRESTED IN THE WAKE OF THE CRISIS
Residents of Owhawha Community in Ughelli South LGA have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to wade into the land dispute between them and Okwagbe Community and restore peace to the area.
The residents who made this appeal during a peaceful protest in the community noted that the crisis has drastically affected the economy of the community.
Speaking on behalf of the placard carrying protesters the Unuevworo of the community, Chief Wilson Ohogbere, it's Chairman, Mr John Akpoveta and Youth President, Comrade Benjamin Holley appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to intevene and effect the release of one their Indigenes, Chief Emmanuel Chobor who was arrested in the wake of the crisis.
According to them Chief Emmanuel Chobor was going for a peaceful settlement of.the communal crisis when he was arrested and some persons were also arrested from Okwagbe Community.
They wondered why those arrested from Okwagbe Community were released while Chief Emmanuel Chobor was not released.
The leaders of Owhawha Community noted that for peaceful resolution of the crisis, Chief Emmanuel Chobor should be released.
They stressed that the crisis has negatively affected Socio- economic activities of the area and they are ready to live in peace noting that they have not recovered from the devastating effect of the communal crisis.
Some of the women in community said they are afraid of going to fish or their farms for dear of attack and appealed to Governor Okowa to settle the crisis amicably and ensured all those arrested during the crisis are released.
They pledged their unalloyed support for the Okowa administration.
It would be recalled that Owhawha and Okwagbe Communities were involve in communal crisis last October over a parcel of land.
