DELTA 2023: THERE IS NO ZONING ARRANGEMENT IN DELTA STATE -IJAW TRADITIONAL RULERS
Traditional Rulers of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality have said there is no zoning or rotation of the Governorship seat in Delta State.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of Ijaw Traditional Rulers Council, the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom Torububor the first when he led a delegation of Ijaw monarchs to visit their Urhobo counterpart at the Palace of the Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom.
The Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom Torububor the first thanked the Urhobo monarchs for the warmth reception accorded them noting that it was a sign of the bond of unity that existed between both nations.
Torubebor the first, said the purpose of their visit was to solicit for the support of the Urhobo monarchs for the Ijaws to produce the next Governor of Delta State in 2023.
He noted that the Ijaws have supported two Urhobo sons, Olorogun Felix Ibru and Chief James Ibori to emerge as Governors of the State and they are requesting that the Urhobos reciprocate the gesture.
Torubebor the first stated that, there was nothing like zoning or rotation of the Governorship seat of Delta State adding that aspirants from various ethnic groups had always slugged it out in the Primaries.
For his part, Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom Kalanama the eight said the Ijaws have qualified aspirants that will unite and ensure even development of the state and called for the support of the Urhobos.
Responding on behalf of the Urhobo monarchs, the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, Ogurimerime-Ukori the first said the Urhobo Traditional Rulers had earlier paid a similar visit to the Ijaw Kings and now that the Ijaw monarchs have come to consult them, they will meet with their subjects for possible response.
He noted that their subjects that are politicians told them of an unwritten gentleman agreement on zoning of the Governorship seat on Senatorial District basis noting that going by that arrangement it is the turn of the Urhobos.
Chairman of Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Orhue the first said the best aspirant should be supported irrespective of his tribe or religion while the Chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Forum, the Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom, Ogbon Ogoni Oghoro the first called for prayers for a peaceful election.
It would be recalled that the Ijaw Traditional Rulers Council had earlier visited traditional rulers from Anioma and Isoko nations.
