COURT AFFIRMS OKOBARO AS ONLY RECOGNISED TRADITIONAL RULER IN UGHIEVWEN KINGDOM
A High Court of Delta State sitting at Orerokpe has declared HRM Dr. Matthew Ediri Egbi JP, FoD, AMNSE, Owahwa II, The Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, as the only recognized Traditional Ruler in Ughievwen (Jeremi) Kingdom of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The High Court in a judgment delivered on Thursday in Suit No: HOR/42/2018 HRM M.E. Egbi JP V. Mr. David Okome & Ors granted the reliefs sought by the Okobaro of Ughievwen against the Defendants in the suit and specifically awarded the sum of N10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira) only against each of the three Defendants in favour of the Claimant.
The Okobaro of Ughievwen had filed the suit when the Defendants purported to have splitted Ughievwen Kingdom into Orhowhe, Owawha, Ukpedi and Uhurie Kingdoms and started parading themselves as Traditional Rulers of the alleged Kingdoms.
The High Court in the judgment specifically, perpetually restrained Mr. David Okome, Mr. Thompson Apah and Mr. Dafe Obukoeroro Kogbodi from parading themselves as Traditional Rulers.
The High Court of Delta State, sitting at Otu-Jeremi had earlier in a judgment in suit No: HCG/5/2012 Mr. Matthew Ofioguma & 2 Ors V. HRM Matthew Ediri Egbi JP (Okobaro of Jeremi) in a claim by Counterclaimant seeking a declaration that Uhurie Ruling Kindred/sub-clan of Ughievwen Kingdom is autonomous and entitled to install their own King, dismissed the Counterclaim and held that Uhurie Ruling Kindred/Sub-Clan constitute part of Ughievwen Kingdom and indeed under the Traditional headship of HRM Matthew Ediri Egbi J.P the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom.
The court also awarded the sum of N250,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) only in favour of HRM Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom.
While celebrating the victory, the Okobaro of Ughievwen has called on all the Ughievwen descendants to join hands together to work for the development and progress of Ughievwen kingdom emphasizing that we all (Ughievwen descendants at home and in diaspora won both cases irrespective of defendants or plaintiffs including our forebears). We congratulate ourselves.
He thanked God Almighty for the victory and commended the judge for upholding the truth noting that the judiciary is truely the hope of the common man.
A large crowd of Indigenes trooped to the Palace of the Okobaro jubilating and pouring white powder on their bodies.
They told Newsmen that they are happy because the judgement has once again affirm that Ughievwen is one as ordained by God.
