OKERE-URHOBO INDIGENES REFUTE ALLEGED LAND GRABBING BY GOVT. OFFICIALS, APPOLOGISE
Some Indigenes of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area have reacted to an alleged protest that officials of Delta State Government are involve in land grabbing in the kingdom.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the immediate past Youth President of Okere-Urhobo Development Movement, Comrade Cyril Eboh who condemned the protest in its entirety, said the youths that protested on Thursday in the community alleging land grabbing by Delta State Government officials were paid to disturb the peace of the Kingdom.
Comrade Eboh added that the youths do not have the authority of any organ of the Kingdom to embark on the protest describing them as misguided elements.
He noted that, the organ of the kingdom that can demand for a portion of land is the Olodi, Oki and Ighogbadu Management Committee and not the youths.
Comrade Eboh stated that the Kingdom benefitted a lot from the Okowa administration in terms of development and appointments, to which they are grateful and as such cannot bite the finger that fed them.
He explained that, Delta State Government approved the said parcel of land to a Company called Venture Nigeria Limited and he was the Community Liaison Officer, CLO, to the company.
Comrade Eboh added that, the then Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Okere-Urhobo Board of Trustees and Management Committee of the property were all aware of the approval and gave their support for their support for the company to operate.
A former Youth Vice President of Okere-Urhobo Development Movement, Mr Nathaniel Okumagba and Mrs Helen Eyikpemi appologised to the State Government over the purported protest noting that the youths were misled by some persons who do not mean well for the kingdom.
They urged the management of the Company to carry on with their work on the land as their children would be gainfully employed by the company when it starts operation.
They also urged residents of the kingdom to be law abiding and ignore the protest by the misled youths.
