UGHELLI NORTH LGA INAUGURATES LIVESTOCK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE TO ENFORCE ANTI GRAZING LAW IN THE COUNCIL AREA

On Thursday September 30th 2021 the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa signed into law the Anti Grazing Bill forwarded by the Delta State House Of Assembly thereby prohibiting open grazing in the state
To ensure enforcement of the law, the Acting Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area and Head of Personnel Management HPM, Mr Timothy Ase on wednesday inaugurated a livestock management committee.
The committee comprises farmers, herders and other stakeholders in Ughelli North.
The committee will work out modalities for the movement of cattles in designated areas.
Under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori plans are afoot to implement the law across the twenty-five Local Government Areas of the state.
It now appears that Ughelli North Local Government Area is taking the lead.
Acting Chairman and Head Of Personnel Management HPM of the council Mr Timothy Ase said the livestock management Committee will help reduce the incidents of farmers and herders clashes in the local government area.
He said first offenders will pay a fine of 100,000 Naira adding that subsequent offenders will pay a fine of 500,000 naira.
Representatives of farmers and herders said modalities will be worked out to ensure a successful implementation of the law.
Those inaugurated are Members of the committee Mr Timothy Ase R. E as chairman, Bar Omaminiovo Aghogho as Secretary, Agbro Charles Edafe as member, DSP Feberesima Ibiere as member
Others are Orji James as member, Adjarho Oghenekaro as member, Alhaji Badamasi Abudu as member, Warri Ufuoma Grace as member, Irimiya Elisha as member and Godwin Onowvawhare as member.
Watchers of the development have hailed the Livestock Management Committee in Ughelli North for taking the first step in Delta State to prevent herders farmers clashes which have caused much loss of lives, destruction of farm crops as well as farmer apprehension.
With the law now fully in place it is hope herdsmen are must now ensure that their cattle do not roam the roads and bushes anymore.
