NUJ DBS WARRI CHAPEL: ED SOCIAL SERVICES DESOPADEC CHIEF FAVOUR IZOUKUMOR SAYS THE COMMISSION IS MAKING IMPACT UNDER THE CURRENT BOARD LEADERSHIP

The Executive Director of Social Services at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Favour Izoukumor, has stated that the commission has made significant impact in the lives of people in its mandate areas through various initiatives.
Chief Izoukumor made this statement during a media chat with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta Broadcasting Services (DBS), Warri Chapel, on Friday.
According to him, the DESOPADEC Skills Academy has trained and empowered several youths from oil-bearing communities in various vocations, while mechanisms are in place to mentor beneficiaries. He added that thousands of women have also benefited from the commission's empowerment programme, and several students have received scholarships and bursaries.
Chief Izoukumor also disclosed that the commission has launched sensitization campaigns against drug abuse and use of illicit drugs, including radio and television programmes, as well as public campaigns. He noted that the campaigns have started yielding positive results.
The Executive Director expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his supportive role, including prompt release of funds and provision of intervention funds to enable the commission meet its targets. He also hailed the Chairman of DESOPADEC Board, Chief John Nani, and the Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor, for creating an enabling environment for the commission to operate.
Earlier, Chairman of NUJ DBS Warri Chapel, Comrade John Glover, said the chat was aimed at examining the activities of the Social Services office in DESOPADEC and its plans for the coming year.
A motion was moved and unanimously adopted, making Chief Favour Izoukumor a patron of the chapel.
