CHIEF SHERIFF MULADE CALLS FOR CALM, SAYS PEACE IN WARRI OUTWEIGHS POLITICAL AMBITION
Warri -
Renowned Peace Ambassador and Environmental Justice Crusader, Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade, PhD, has expressed concern over the growing tension and divisive rhetoric in Warri and its environs, emphasizing that peace and stability in the area are far more important than any personal political ambition.
Comrade Mulade, who is the candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Warri Federal Constituency, in the 2027 General Elections frowned at the actions of individuals allegedly promoting ethnic sentiments, blackmail, and inflammatory comments following the outcome of the party primaries, instead of focusing on preparations for the 2027 General Elections.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders, political actors, and residents to prioritize unity, peace, and sustainable development across Warri and its neighbouring communities, noting that a peaceful environment remains essential for attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, and advancing economic growth.
Comrade Mulade who is the National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice CEPEJ and the Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient and oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area commended the Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, and other ethnic nationalities in the Warri Federal Constituency for maintaining peace and demonstrating restraint despite provocative statements and acts capable of inciting unrest.
According to him, no political aspiration is worth sacrificing the peace and harmony that have been nurtured over the years in Warri and its environs.
Comrade Mulade therefore appealed to residents to reject ethnic bias, hatred, and divisive tendencies capable of triggering conflict, urging them instead to embrace peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and collective progress.
He also called on the people of Warri to support efforts aimed at fostering collaboration among communities and to complement the developmental initiatives of the Delta State Government in delivering the dividends of democracy and infrastructural development to the area.
"Peace remains the foundation for meaningful development. No community can achieve sustainable growth in an atmosphere of conflict and instability," Mulade stated.
