NUJ DBS WARRI CHAPEL ENDORSES COMRADE FELIX EKWU FOR NUJ DELTA STATE COUNCIL SECRETARY POSITION 


The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS, Warri Chapel has endorsed Comrade Felix Ekwu to contest for the position of Secretary of the NUJ Delta State Council in the forthcoming council election, slated for October 22, 2026.


The endorsement followed Comrade Ekwu’s declaration of interest to contest the position at the Congress of the chapel, where members also expressed support for his aspiration.


Speaking at the Congress, Chairman of the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel, Comrade John Glover, described the election as an important period for the union, urging members of the chapel to approach the election with unity and sense of purpose.


Comrade Glover said the DBS Warri Chapel remains one of the foremost chapels in the state and its the first chapel to produced Chairman of the NUJ Delta State council twice.


He identified Comrade Felix Ekwu as one of the chapel’s experienced members and said his emergence as Secretary would provide the chapel with representation in the leadership structure of the state council.


The chapel chairman therefore called on members to remain united and support the decision reached by the chapel, while urging them to be present at the election to exercise their franchise.


He said the chapel’s broader objective was to work collectively towards producing the Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council in the future.


Declaring his interest in the NUJ Delta State Council Secretary position, Comrade Felix Ekwu said his aspiration was at the stage of expressing his intention, adding that he would formally return to the chapel with his team when the campaign begins.


He described NUJ as a collective organisation rather than a one-man affair, stressing the need for teamwork and inclusive leadership as paramount.


Comrade Ekwu said he believes he has the experience, network, professional capabilities, contacts and other qualities required to serve as Secretary of the state council.


He acknowledged the support he had received from the DBS Warri Chapel over the years and solicited its continued support for his aspiration.


Comrade Ekwu also thanked members for the endorsement, describing it as a significant boost ahead of the wider council election.


In their goodwill messages, Comrade Kingsley Agho, Comrade Obes Isonguyo, Comrade Collins Ofuafo, Comrade Stella Edemharia, the Delta State Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo, and Comrade Peterson Itiowe, among others, expressed support for Comrade Ekwu’s aspiration.


A motion for the endorsement of Comrade Felix Ekwu was moved by the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel Secretary Comrade Oghenerouna Oyibo and seconded by Comrade Grace Mato, and thereafter unanimously accepted through a voice vote by all, formally making the DBS Warri Chapel’s position in support of Comrade Ekwu’s declaration of interest known.
