TAF AFRICA SENSITIZES PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES AHEAD OF 2027  GENERAL ELECTIONS.




Persons living with disabilities in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State have been urged to take advantage of electoral provisions and guidelines designed to promote their participation in the electoral process and come out in large numbers to vote in the 2027 General Elections.


The call was made by the  Assistant Programme Manager of  TAF Africa, Dr. George Tammy Anwayi, during a sensitisation programme organised to educate persons living with disabilities on their rights and participation in the forthcoming elections and was held today Wednesday 02/09/26 at Omoro hall Emede in Isoko South council Area of Delta State.tr4

The programme, tagged “Able to Vote,” also provided a platform for participants to highlight some of the challenges they encounter while exercising their franchise.


While addressing persons living with disabilities in Isoko South Local Government Area on their rights and participation in the 2027 General Elections, the Assistant Programme Manager of The All Rights Foundation, TAF Africa, Dr. George Anwayi, said the sensitisation programme, supported by the European Union, was aimed at educating participants on the importance of exercising their civic rights.


Dr. George Anwayi explained that beyond sensitisation, the programme provided an opportunity for TAF Africa to interface directly with persons living with disabilities and identify barriers that could hinder their participation in elections.


He identified some of the challenges as difficulty accessing transportation to polling centres, inadequate support for voters with disabilities, and a shortage of interpreters and other appropriate assistance for persons with hearing and visual impairments.


The Assistant Programme Manager assured participants that their concerns would be presented to relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies, for appropriate attention ahead of the elections.


Dr. George Anwayi disclosed that the “Able to Vote” sensitisation programme is being implemented in different parts of Delta State to broaden awareness and encourage greater participation of persons living with disabilities in the electoral process.


Some participants who spoke including the, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, (JONAPWD,) Isoko South Local Government Area Chapter, Comrade Sammy Emmanuel and Mr. Samson Ogowewo respectively  commended TAF Africa for organising the sensitisation programme.


They said the initiative had further enlightened them on their rights and the importance of participating actively in the electoral process.


The participants also pledged to mobilise their members and encourage them to turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise during the 2027 General Elections.


The sanitization programme provided participants with an opportunity to better understand their electoral rights while drawing attention to practical barriers that could affect the participation of persons living with disabilities in the 2027 elections.


They appeal to the leadership of Join National association of persons with disabilities (JONAPWD) to fish out non members of (JONAPWD) from the association.
