HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP DEMANDS SPEEDY PROSECUTION OVER UNITY ADEDA’S DEATH

The Delta State Chapter of the International Human Rights Protection Service has called for the speedy prosecution of anyone found culpable in the death of Mr Unity Adeda, a Level 16 civil servant with the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.

The group made the call on Saturday during a peaceful protest in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, where members demanded a thorough investigation, accountability and justice for the deceased.

The protesters took to the streets displaying banners and placards, expressing concern over the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s reported death following an alleged altercation at his workplace.

They insisted that the matter must not be swept under the carpet, urging the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice, regardless of their position or status.

The group also acknowledged the assurance by the Delta State Government, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, that there would be no miscarriage of justice in the matter, while urging the authorities to translate the assurance into concrete action.

Speaking during the protest, AMB JOHN LAWSON ITEDJERE. Chairman international human rights protection forum USA Delta State chapter, expressed concern over the incident and called for decisive action to establish the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.

Also speaking, the organisation’s Legal Directorate representative, Ambassador Ufuoma Eseraka, and Dr Onosakponebro Ejiroghene condemned what they described as the brutalisation of the deceased, which they alleged led to his death.

They called for the speedy prosecution of everyone found to have played a role in the incident, stressing that accountability was essential to upholding the rule of law and protecting the fundamental human rights of citizens.

The human rights advocates further appealed to the Federal Government, the Delta State Government, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to intervene and ensure that the case receives the urgent attention it deserves.

They maintained that justice for the late Unity Adeda would not only provide some measure of closure for his family but also strengthen public confidence in the justice system and send a clear message that violence and human rights violations would not be tolerated.

The group urged the authorities to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted and that appropriate legal action is taken against anyone found culpable.
